SAM'L OSBORNE PROMINENT HOTEL OWNER DIES HERE

CONDUCTED HOTELS HERE THIRTY YEARS

Samuel C. Osborne, for a quarter of a century one of the most prominent hotel men here, died suddenly at his home in the Arlington Hotel at 6:30 this morning. Mr. Osborne, who was joint proprietor with his mother of the Arlington, was stricken suddenly in the hotel office yesterday afternoon. He was conveyed to his room and Dr. Emery Marvel called. Last evening about 10:30, Mr. Osborne rallied, became entirely rational and there was every hope for his ultimate recovery. He suddenly took a turn for the worse early this morning and gradually sank until he passed away.
Death is believed to have been a clot of blood on the heart.
Born in Philadelphia, Mr. Osborne was 50 years of age on Monday last. He was born in Philadelphia and came here to reside about thirty years ago. His mother, Mrs. Rebecca J. Osborne, erected the Hotel Osborne at Arkansas and Pacific avenues, and the deceased became associated with her in the management of it. About twenty years ago, Mr. Osborne became associated with his brother-in-law, Mr. O.D. Painter, in the management of the Majestic on Virginia Ave. Four years later, he and Mr. Painter took over the Islesworth which they conducted for four years. Then Mr. Osborne became identified with the John C. Gossler art store on the boardwalk. In 1909, he and his mother opened the Arlington, which they have successfully conducted ever since.
Deceased was a member of the Belcher Lodge of Masons, No. 276, Crescent Temple, Order of the Mystic Shrine, the Elks, YMCA board, Hotel _________, ________________, __________ Commerce (Newspaper faded)
In addition to his mother, a widow, Blanche W. [V.] Osborne and four children Samuel Osborne, Jr. Paul W. [V.], Hugh and Louise.
Arrangements for the funeral have not yet been made.
