In 1878, Lawson Baylies married first, Susanna Kesler Smith (who was b. in 1854 and d. in 1879.

On Apr. 1, 1881, 32 yr. old Lawson W. Baylies and 21 yr. old Jennie M. Stahl were married in Montgomery, KS., according to KS. County Marriage Records.

DEATH TAKES L. W. BAYLIES OF PALISADE
Well Known Retired Peach Grower Dies at Home; Moved to Palisade in 1905.
Lawson Wheelock Baylies, 95, prominent retired peach grower, died early today at his home in Palisade.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at the Seventh Day Adventist church in Palisade, with Elder Don Rees officiating. Burial will be in the Palisade I. O. O. F. cemetery. The Voorhees mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Baylies was born July 14, 1848 in Greensburg, La. He was the last surviving member of a family of seven sons and one daughter born to Judge Nicholas and Mary Helen Cahoon Baylies.
His early life was spent in Louisiana, Illinois and near Des Moines, Ia. He went to Kansas in 1869 and took up a homestead near Independence. He lived on the homestead for 14 years.
He was joined in wedlock in 1876, with Susie Smith, who was taken from him by death after a year of married life.
He married Jennie May Stahl in 1880.
Mr. and Mrs. Baylies moved in 1883 to a farm in southwestern Iowa, near Neola. Here he spent the next 25 years of his life. In 1896, he and Mrs. Maylies accepted the faith as held by Seventh Day Adventists and became members of the church of that denomination in Council Bluffs, Ia.
Mrs. Baylies died in 1905, and four years later, Mr. Baylies moved to Palisade. He purchased a peach ranch on Bower avenue which he operated until retiring in 1922. He sold the ranch in that year and moved to his present home on East Third street, where he spent his declining years.
Mr. Baylies came from early colonial stock and was an eighth lineal descendent of Roger Williams. He was active in the Seventh Day Adventist church in Palisade and was highly respected in the community.
Surviving are two sons, Lyndon, Washington D. C. and Edward, Yucaipa, Calif.;
three daughters, Myrtle, Palisadem Helen, Glendale and Mrs. Louise Klotz, Denver, and
six grandchildren, three of whom are in the service of their country.
Two of the daughters, Myrtle and Helen, were all known in the valley as registered nurses, in recent years, Myrtle has cared for her father.
