CLARENCE NELSON SERVICES PENDING

NEWKIRK - Funeral services are pending for Clarence B. Nelson, 79, who died in Arkansas City Memorial Hospital Wednesday at 10 P.M. Arrangements are in charge of Stahl Funeral Service her.
Nelson was born in Cedar Vale, Kan., Jan. 18, 1884. He attended Cedar Vale schools and the Wichita Business College. On March 9, 1906, he married Miss Laura West. They lived near Cedar Vale where he was a building contractor.
He is survived by three daughters. Mrs. Mable Stephens, Ponca City, Mrs. Felix Winchell, Cedar Vale, and Mrs. Enah Lideau (Liebau), Laramie, WY., six grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

This is some history as told by his daughter Mable Nelson Stephens McClure. She had information placed in the 'History of Chautauqua County' book, published in 1987.

Clarence was raised by his grandparents Eldridge and Emily. Mostly Emily and probably his uncle, Clyde Elmer who was still at home after Eldridge death, in 1890. They continued to run the farm until Emily's death.
Clarence Bartgis Nelson was a painter, carpenter, school custodian, sheriff and photographer. He drew trade in the photo practice from Dexter, Otto, Hewing, Genola, Leeds, and even Arkansas City in Kansas and Grainola, OK.
On March 11, 1906, he was married to Laura Ellen West, Just after he lost his grandmother, Emily Ann Nelson. Laura was born June 10, 1888. To this union were born three girls, Mabel Opal, Clara Marie, and Enah Aldena. A boy, born last, lived only a few hours.
