Van A. Gates, 66, of 1908 Garfield St., retired Hamilton Mfg. Co. Two Rivers employee & formerly head maintenance man at the J.E. Hamilton Community House, Two Rivers, died unexpectedly of a coronary attack in his sleep at his home early Friday morning.
Funeral services will be at Deja & Martin Funeral Chapel, Two Rivers & at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Two Rivers. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, Two Rivers.
Mr. Gates was born May 21, 1896 in the town of Two Rivers, son of the late Peter & Josephine Gates. He attended rural schools & Sacred Heart Parochial School at Two Rivers. Throughout his entire life he followed the trade of a carpenter working 15 years at the Community House & 16 years at the Hamilton firm retiring in July 1961. He was a member of the Equitable Reserve Assn.
Surviving are his wife, the former Mary Walsh, who he married Nov. 23, 1915 at Two Rivers, 2 daughters, Mrs. Joseph Schroeder of Manitowoc & Mrs.Alfred Behrendt of Two Rivers, 3 sisters, Mrs. Mary Wiltgen of Two Rivers, Mrs. Carl Hollenbeck of Kenosha, Mrs. Clarence LaQue of Manitowoc, 2 brothers, Peter & Louis of Two Rivers & 11 grandchildren.
