Husband of Grizelda (Taylor) Collier (1756-1846). Father of five girls and four boys. Son of John Collier and Elizabeth (Meredith) Collier. John was a Revolutionary War Patriot who fought in the 7th Virginia Regiment under Capt. Thomas Hill. He was one of the soldiers who was stationed at Valley Forge during the harsh winter of 1777. He fought at Brandywine and Monmouth, NJ among other battles. Later, in 1791, he fought as a Sergeant in the Indian Wars.
