Mrs. W. Johnson, 85, Dies At Platteville
Mrs. William Johnson, 85, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W. [illiam] W. Matheny at Platteville, Sunday afternoon, Nov. 3. The funeral services were held at the Methodist church in Blockton Tuesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. W. H. Warrior. Burial was in the Rose Hill cemetery (Later called Blockton Cemetery).
Elizabeth E. [llen] Erwin was born near Leesville, Ind., June 28, 1850. She came to Iowa in 1864. On July 30, 1868 she was married to John Bennett. He died two years later and she was
married in 1873 to William Johnson. They resided in Ringgold County a short time and then moved to Taylor County, which place had since been their home. Mr. Johnson died in 1919.
They were the parents of eleven children, two having preceded their parents in death, Ira L. died in infancy and Lola A. Martin in 1912.
The surviving children are Mrs. Ina Matheny of Blockton, H. [enry] A. Johnson of Buffalo, Wyo., Mrs. Ora Murray of Barnard, Kans., W. [illiam] C. Johnson of Bedford, Mrs. Virda [Verda] Nash of Hillsdale, Wyo., Mrs. [Mary] Olive Dungy of Harvey, Ark., J. [esse] G. Johnson of Sheridan, Mo., C. [harles] F. Johnson of Des Moines, and Milo V. Johnson of Leavenworth, Kans. There are also twenty-seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
