David of this memorial married Deborah Palmer 28 Oct. 1813 in New York; she was b. 1795 and d. 1875.
He started numerous newspapers only to move six to nine months later, selling his interests, often to a son or relation. The earliest newspaper of record that he owned was "Cortland Advocate" which was being published on October 7th, 1831 by David Fairchild. It ended its run about the end of 1837, the last copy held in New York is September 21st, 1837.

February 8, 1843; "Dansville Republican" printed at Dansville, Livingston county, N.Y. David Fairchild, its former proprietor, and by whom it was commenced and continued to the close of the 1st volume, has disposed of his entire interest in the establishment to his son, F. Orville Fairchild.
April 4 1844: Then, off to The "Trumansburg Gazette," printed at Trumansburg, Tompkins Co. N.Y.
February 12, 1845: "Dansville Republican"; This paper, first established three years ago (see above), by David Fairchild, and since published by F. Orville Fairchild.
From 1845 to 1848, David Fairchild owned 4 other newspapers.
When gold was discovered at Sutter's Mill, Calif., David Fairchild sold his interest in his current newspaper holding, "Wayne County Democrat" (NY) and he, along with son Mahlon, and son-in-law, William K. Creque, left for California.
He returned from the gold fields, leaving the others in California. David then emigrated to California with his wife, youngest son and eldest daughter (William Creque's wife) and her two children.
He was a member of the California State Assembly for the 18th District, 1860-61.
