Gerald L. Nuttall, 87, died peacefully in his sleep on January 22, 2010 at his home in Boise, surrounded by his wife and friends. Memorial services will be held at 11:00am on Thursday, January 28, at Cloverdale Funeral Home, 1200 North Cloverdale Road, Boise, Idaho. A luncheon will follow at the Cloverdale Funeral Home Reception Center. Jerry was born in New Lisbon, Wisconsin on August 11, 1922. He was the third child of six siblings born to Ray and Lillian Nuttall. Jerry completed his public education in New Lisbon and received his high school diploma in May of 1940. He enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corp in January of 1942 and was stationed in China during World War II. Jerry was decorated in April of 1945 with the Bronze Star for bravery in combat. He also received the American Campaign Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Theater Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. In 1946, Jerry enrolled at the University of Wisconsin in Madison, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering. His first employment as an engineer was for the Bureau of Reclamation in Sacramento, CA until 1952 when he joined Morrison Knudsen International. He was originally hired as a field engineer for Morrison Knudsen and worked his way to becoming Vice President. Jerry retired from MKI Boise in 1987 after a distinguished 35-year career with the company. During his career, he traveled throughout the world, residing in Afghanistan, Indonesia, Taiwan, Australia, Singapore and the United States. On his return from Indonesia in the spring of 1957, Jerry met the love of his life, Jean Gilbertson, who was working in the personnel office of MKI San Francisco. They married in December 1958. Together they had the adventures and joys of fifty-one beautiful years of marriage. They enjoyed traveling, socializing with friends, fishing, playing cards and golfing together. Jerry even joined that select group of people who have scored a hole-in-one. Jerry was a Fellow in the American Society of Civil Engineers and a registered Professional Engineer in the State of California. He was a contributing member of Shriners International since 1960 and long-time member of the American Legion. Jerry was also an exclusive member of the Domain of Neptunus Rex. Beloved Husband of Jean; Father of Curtis and Isabel Nuttall of Anchorage, Alaska, and Robert and Gina Nuttall of Everett, Washington; Grandfather of Matthew Nuttall of Anchorage, Alaska, and Sarah and Brandon Nuttall, of Everett, Washington; sisters, Mavis Martin of Mauston, Wisconsin and Karen Schroeder; and numerous nieces and nephews, his extended Canadian family, and his treasured friends in Boise and around the world. He will be truly missed by all who knew him and loved him. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Everett and Norman; and sister, Delores. The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to all the wonderful people who were involved in Jerry's home care during the past few years: doctors, nurses, caregivers, therapists and special friends.
