Born in Providence, a son of the late Thomas H. and Sarah (Ryan) Donilon, he moved to Narragansett in 1990.
Mr. Donilon was appointed to the Providence School Committee in 1969, serving as vice chairman from 1973-1976 and then as chairman until he retired in 1979. He was a former member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 1528, East Providence, a communicant of St. Mary Star of the Sea Church, Narragansett and active in the Democratic Party in Providence for many years.
He was a United States Army Veteran.
A graduate of La Salle Academy and Providence College, he had studied at the Rhode Island School of Design and was an accomplished artist.
He leaves three sons, Thomas E. Donilon of Washington, D.C., Michael C. Donilon of Alexandria, VA, and Terrence C. Donilon of Providence, a daughter, Donna M. Donilon of Narragansett, a sister Alice Ryan Munson of Narragansett, and five grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Margaret Ruggiero and Joseph Donilon.
The funeral was held Friday form the James J. Gallogly & Sons Funeral Home, Providence, with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Joseph Church. Providence. Burial followed in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Providence.
