George Sofie was born Donato Sofia.

"In the year of our Lord, 1878, on the 1st day of the month of May there was administered in the Cathedral, by Father Alfonso Bianchini, to a child born at the hour of 9 A.M. to Antonio Sofia and Carolina Serritella, husband and wife, domiciled in Muro Lucano. The name given to the child is Donato. The birth attended by Maria Felicia Altieri."

George's paternal grandparents were Vincenzo Sofia and Maria Teresa Bologna. George's maternal grandparents were Giuseppe Serritella and Annamaria Pantuosco.

George, along with his parents came to America in about 1890. They settled on the homestead's of his older brothers, James and Joseph. George purchased property nearby and farmed along with his brother James for many years.

George married Christina Scaringi. The application for marriage was made on 12 December 1900 in Clallam County, Washington. George and Christina had a double wedding with George's brother Peter and his wife Teresa Margiotta on 2 January 1901. The ceremony was performed by Father F.X. Prefontaine.

According to the registry in the record books of St. Joseph's, a mission church in Sequim, Washington, of the parish of Queen of Angels, of Port Angeles, "George Sofia, died on December 3, 1967 at the age of 89 – no family listed – just "Italy" – the presiding priest was the pastor of Queen of Angels, Rev. Alcuin Lawrence, OSB."

When Christina's sister Rose Scaringi Costa passed away, George and Christina took in Rose's son, Frank Costa.
