Michael Clair Thomas served as a Lance Corporal in the Headquarters & Service Company, 2nd Battalion, 5th Marines, 1st Marine Division, III MAF, United States Marine Corps, during the Vietnam War.

He was killed in action on October 17, 1966 in Quang Tri, South Vietnam.

He was originally from Arendtsville, Pennsylvania.

ARENDTSVILLE MAN IS BURIED FRIDAY

Largely attended funeral services for Lance Corporal Michael Clair Thomas, 21, Arendtsville, were held Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Bender Funeral Home. Rev. Ronald VanBlargan, pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church, Arendtsville, officiated.

Corporal Thomas, a member of the H and F 25 Flame Platoon of the U.S. Marine Corps, was killed October 17 in the Quang Tri Province when a sniper's bullet passed through his neck.

Pallbearers and full military honors were provided by the United States Marine Corps.

Interment was in the National Cemetery.
