Rebecca Reed Battin, 87, formerly of West Chester, died Sunday, Dec. 19, 2004, at the Masonic Home in Elizabethtown.

She was the wife of the late Maurice J. Battin Jr., who died in 1995.

Born in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late Joseph K. and Bertha Wilfong Reed.

Mrs. Battin was a graduate of Marple-Newtown High School, St. Luke's, and the Children's Medical Center, where she studied to be a Registered Nurse.

After working at a private hospital in Lebanon for two years, Mrs. Battin served in the U.S. Navy during World War II for three years. She was stationed in Philadelphia, Norfolk and Portsmouth.After leaving the Navy, she worked as a nurse at the Old Memorial Hospital and the Chester County Hospital, and also in private duty.

She retired in 1979 after 11 years in the infirmary at Cheyney University.

Mrs. Battin was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, West Chester Chapter No. 352 O.E.S. and the Ladies Auxiliary West Chester Forest No. 22 T.C.L..

She is survived by a daughter, Lynn B. Jankowski of Burke, Va.; a brother, Joesph K. Reed Jr. of Pensacola, Fla.; and two grandchildren, Rachel and Phillip.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service at 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 27, at the Masonic Home of Elizabethtown, One Masonic Drive, Elizabethtown.

Private interment will be held at Bradford Cemetery, Marshallton.

Memorial contributions may be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church, 10 W. Pleasant Grove Road, West Chester, PA 19382.
