He was born Nov. 5, 1917, at the family home near Altenburg, Mo., son of Theodore and Anna L. Engert. He married Lucynda Niemeyer on Nov. 1, 1942, at St. John Lutheran Church-Crane Creek, rural Tripoli. She died Jan. 12, 1993.
Mr. Engert farmed south of Tripoli for a few years, then east of Frederika, retiring in 1992. He later worked part time as a carpenter for Moeller Construction and also worked Colburne Feed Mill, both in Tripoli.
Survivors include a son, Paul (Martha) of Strawberry Point; a daughter, Ruth Ann (Steven) Gaede of Denver, Iowa; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by: an infant daughter, Mary Ann; a grandson; and two brothers, Eugene and Gilbert.
Services at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Grace Lutheran Church, Tripoli, with burial in St. John Lutheran Church Cemetery-Crane Creek, rural Tripoli.
