Mary Ellen Davis, of Benton, Kentucky, went home to her Lord on Thursday, September 24, 2020. Born on July 27, 1924 she spent her ninety-six years on earth caring for the people around her. Her compassion showed up in late night phone calls, long hugs, and many, many meals cooked with her special ingredient – love. Some call it gravy, but we all know it is actually Grandma’s love.

She married Albert Davis on June 6, 1942. They were young, in love, and wanted to be married before he headed out for war. They learned the strength of their love in those early years together. They brought four beautiful babies into the world- Skip, Margie, Martha, and Bud. As each child married, Albert and Mary Ellen welcomed their spouses as their own – Rick, Roger, Gary, and Tabby. They continued to spread this unwavering love to grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Mary Ellen was a woman of deep faith, always generous with grace and trusting in God’s plan. She had a spunky side, teaching us about the two meanings of “Bless your heart.” She was a blessing to everyone she met, always making room for more mouths to feed at her table.

The reunion in Heaven must have been incredible with Mary Ellen wrapping her arms around those she’s been missing for so long including her parents Leah Elizabeth Wyatt, Elmer Harper and James Farley, husband-Albert Davis, daughter-Margie Klein, siblings-Archie (Florence) Harper, Charlie (Edith) Harper, Chester (Pauline) Harper, Nolan (Hallene) Harper, and Elizabeth (Wade) Garland, sons-in-law-Gary West and Rick Ballard, daughter-in law-Kathy Davis, grandsons-Adam Klein and Bill Crawford.

Left here on earth to pass on her legacy of love are her children: Skip Ballard, Martha West, Bud (Tabby) Davis, Roger Klein Sr. Remembering her delicious potato salad are her grandkids: Scott (Kim) Klein, Roger Klein Jr., Kerry (Julie) Klein, Ernie (Jen) West, Mark (Ellie) West, Gabby, Seth, and Willson Davis. Celebrating their fun memories of days together in Kentucky are her great grandchildren: Dakota Crawford, Alex, Erik (Lisa), Alexandria and Breonna Klein, Jordan Kanine, Blake Reyes, Drue Klein, Ethan and Emma West, and Vivienne West. Cherishing memories of an amazing sisterhood is Jean (Jewell) Barrett. Remembering long visits on the porch with sweet tea are many special nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, September 26, 2020 at Fooks Cemetery, with Rev. Jewell Barrett officiating.

A celebration of her life will happen at a later date when we are able to gather in a large group with good food, just the way Mary Ellen would have wanted.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to: St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
