MODESTO, CA…..Zella Gail Hodges Stewart, a resident of Modesto, California, formerly of Headland, Alabama, died Tuesday, January 26, 2010, at her home. She was 74.
Graveside services will be held at 12:00 Noon, Friday, February 5, 2010, in the New Zion Free Will Baptist Cemetery in Tumbleton with Reverend Danny Arnold officiating and a eulogy to be given by Janet Martineau. Holman-Headland Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends following the graveside services.
Mrs. Stewart was born in Headland, Alabama, daughter of the late Howard R. Hodges and Lizzie H. Oates Hodges, and the grand-daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Harper Oates and Mr. and Mrs. Jordan Hodges. She lived in Columbus, Georgia before moving to California three years ago. Mrs. Stewart was of the Methodist Faith. She was preceded in death by her sister, Lilly Alice Hodges Fields.
Surviving relatives include two daughters, Sherri Lynn Burwen, Castro Valley, CA; Linda Kay Hendricks, Juneau, AK; two sons, Ralph C. Stewart, III, Modesto, CA; and Michael Robert Kolb, Woodland, CA; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; two aunts, Ruby Oates Arnold, Dothan; Johnnie Ruth Oates Taylor, Headland; an uncle, Ed Oates, Headland.
