Rev. John Harvey Clark, age 85, of North Wilkesboro died Friday, January 29, 2010 at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem.

Funeral services will be held 11:00, Tuesday, February 2, at Baptist Home Baptist Church with the Rev. Darrell Tate, Rev. Carl Williams, Dr. Paul Brunner, and Rev. Jeff Blackburn officiating. Burial will be in Mountlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive at Baptist Home Baptist Church Life Center from 6:00 until 8:00 Monday night.

Rev. Clark was born in Hinton, WV, on November 9, 1924, to Albert Ross and Emma Ruth Harvey Clark. He was called to the ministry in 1939 at the age of 14 and attended Moody Bible Institute from 1942 until 1945. Rev. Clark was ordained on October 30, 1945. He returned to North Carolina in 1947 and married Ocie Clementine Linkous on June 6, 1948.

Rev. Clark pastored in the Piedmont and Western North Carolina from 1947 until 2002. He moved to Wilkes County in 1976, where he pastored Baptist Home Baptist Church, Mountain Valley and Union Baptist Church. He served five Wilkes County churches as supply pastor after his retirement in 1988. Rev. Clark was honored as Pastor Emeritus by Diamond Hill Baptist Church in Statesville in May of 1999. During his ministry, Rev. Clark preached 240 revivals including 47 in Wilkes County. He served as chairman of area wide Evangelistic Crusades in High Point, Statesville and Wilkes County. He also served on the General Board of the NC Baptist Convention; six years on the Board of Ministers at Campbell University. Rev. Clark holds certificates from Criswell Center for Biblical Studies and the Evangelical Teacher Training Assn. and also served as Chairman of Evangelism in five NC Baptist Associations. Rev. Clark had a prior association with the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association and was a former chairman of the Moody Alumni Association of the Carolinas.

In addition to his parents and wife, Rev. Clark was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother.

Rev. Clark is survived by one daughter, Mary Ruth Sebastian and husband, Bill of North Wilkesboro; two sons, David Clark and wife, Jane of Greensboro and Phillip Clark and wife, Gloria of Charlotte; one sister, Geraldine Beshears and husband, Charles of Purlear; two brothers, Albert Clark and wife, Mary of St. Albans, WV and Ralph Clark and wife, Jane of Hickory; four grandchildren, Erin Clark, Valerie Sebastian, Logan Clark, Jeff Sebastian.
