Watertown Daily Times - 1966 Jefferson County, N. Y. Raymond Comins, 80, Expires Raymond Comins, 80, of 45 Skyline apartments, retired teacher and carpenter, died at 8 p.m., Thursday at his home, following a long illness. A private funeral will be held Sunday at 2 p.m., at the Cummings funeral home, with Rev. Dean P. Shaw, pastor of the Clayton Methodist church, officiating. Spring burial will be in St. Lawrence cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home, 214 Sterling street, fro 7 to 9 tonight and 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m Saturday. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Muriel Bamford Comins; two daughters, Mrs. Charles (Hilda) Klock, 139 East Hoard street; Mrs. Joseph (Helen) Messina, Ogdensburg; four sons: James C., Oakfield; Raymond W., Clayton; Chester L., Phoenix, Ariz.; and Clyde B., 135 East Hoard street; a sister, Mrs. Jennie Consaul, Norcross, Ga.; two brothers, Harrison, Rosiere, and Columbus, Largo, Fla.; 17 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren. Mr. Comins was born April 13, 1886, in Clayton, a son of James H. and Adelaide Cornwell Comins. A graduate of Sackets Harbor High school, he attended summer school in Port Leyden for a number of years. He was a graduate of the agricultural course at Cornell university and held a life teaching diploma. Having taught in various communities in Jefferson and Oswego counties, he last taught in Millwood, Ga. He was principal in a number of schools. He had operated a farm in Mohawk Hill, near Constableville, for years. From 1922 to 1935, Mr. and Mrs. Comins had a general store and post office in St. Lawrence, near Clayton. He worked as a carpenter with his son, James, in Byron for a time. In 1955, Mr. and Mrs. Comins moved from near Batavia to Clayton and he was in partnership with his son, Raymond, in the contracting business. Mr. and Mrs. Comins have lived in Watertown since July, 1963. On Dec. 28, 1960, they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. They were married in 1910 in the parsonage of the First Baptist church by Rev. James Foster Wilcox, then pastor. Mrs. Comins was from Watertown, R. D. 3.
