Born and raised in Greenwich, he was the son of the late John H. Adams, Sr. and Mary Ellen (McCauley) Adams.
Mr. Adams lived in Greenwich for sixty-two years before retiring from the United States Post Office, Cos Cob, to move to Sandwich in 1987. He was a veteran of World War II serving as a radioman in the Navy from 1942 to 1945. Mr. Adams was an active member of Corpus Christi Parish and the Knights of Columbus twice serving as Grand Knight. He was proud to contribute his time and energy to better the Sandwich community. He enjoyed golf and crossword puzzles.
Surviving are his sons, John D. "Jay" Adams of West Hartford, Peter M. Adams of Peachtree City, Ga. and step daughter, Rose Marie Adams of Westport; two grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Martin J. Adams.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 4, 2010 in Corpus Christi Parish, 324 Quaker Meeting House Road, Sandwich.
A graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, February 5, 2010 in St. Mary Cemetery, 399 North Street, Greenwich.
