He was an unidentified soldier when he was buried at Antietam National Cemetery. His marker only said "S---D. W." In October 2009, Phil Harris, researcher for the 19th Indiana Infantry, identified his burial location. He worked with the National Park Service at Antietam to install a new marker for Pvt. Lenon.
