Son of William Spencer Heath and Alice Toleta (Rainbolt) Heath. He died at Hiram Marion Rainbolt's ranch in an accidental death due to a horse rolling over on him.
DIED. At H.M. Rainbolt's April 18 at 3 o'clock p.m., Mr. Dick Heath (nephew of Mr. Rainbolt) in his 17th year. At 10 o'clock a.m. he mounted a wild horse and started, in company with several others, to the post office at Eolian, and before ten minutes had elapsed, the horse fell, rolling over him, which did the dreadful work. Messrs. B. Loving and Rainbolt, being near, were first to reach the fatal spot, lift the helpless, bruised and silent form to the saddle and bear it to the house. Doubtless he had started to the office with the buoyant hope of meeting there his companions, and, perhaps receive tidings from absent loved ones. But, alas! the day with which promises and enjoyment, brought danger and death. The shock with which his friends were taken, who but a short time before, had seen him in perfect health, was indeed, great; and all that loving hands and a skilled physician could do, was done, but ere the sun had set, life, with all its pleasures, was gone. To the many friends who so kindly attended him, we offer lasting gratitude. To his associates, especially those who wept so bitterly as the coffin was being lowered, we would say; May this sad event prove a blessing, and may it warn you to so live, that when the Master calls, you may be ready. Often when the prospect appears brightest and the future radiant with hope, suddenly the sky darkens, the Destroyer comes, fond hopes are crushed, and the heart bleeds beneath the love of the Divine hand; and as we feel sorrow and darkness wondering why it is so, we can only exclaim: "How unsearchable are they judgments God, and Thy ways past finding out." Dick was a moral young man, loved by all, lived an even, happy life, and shall be missed in the social circle. His uncle's family, with whom he resided and to whom he was ever faithful and devoted, will feel his loss most keenly. Holy memories will linger long in their hearts as they think of him...(paper torn on end)
