WW1 Veteranbelieve his real first name was connie (see his headstone at fox hill,curry co.,ore.)shortly after being sent to san francisco,he contacted the measles,and it was when recovering from this disease that he took the pneumonia which caused his death. he died at the naval station,mare island,ca.connie fish,son of mrs. s.p. merrill of euchre creek died with pneumonia at san francisco last week.the young man enlisted in the navy with wm.dobbins of wedderburn,at marshfield not long since.shortly after being sent to san francisco,he contacted the measles,and it was when recovering from this disease that he took the pneumonia which was the cause of his death.his mother had visited him but a few days before he took the latter disease.
mr. fish was about 21 yrs. of age and was born and raised at euchre creek,where he has many friends who are grived at his untimely death.besides his mother he is survived by one brother,fred fish,also of euchre creek.
the remains are being brought home for interment,and will be buried beside his father,eugene fish,in the euchre creek cemetery.
mr.fish is the first young man from curry county to give his life in the war.while he did not fall on the firing line,yet his life was given for the great cause for which this country if fighting just as much as though he had died in "no man's" land.this thought should be a consolation to those he has left behind.
