High Masonic Officers from All Parts of Nation Attend Services

Flowers Are Profuse
Impressive Rites Conducted in Spring Forest Cemetery

Final tribute to the late Harry Clay Walker was paid by hundreds of friends, associates and high Masonic leaders from all parts of the country when he was laid at rest in Spring Forest cemetery this afternoon. The auditorium of the Masonic temple was visited by hundreds between 10 am and l pm, as the body lay in state with a guard of honor from Malta Commandery 21, Knights Templar, while organ music was played by Charles Goss, J Emery Kelley and Charles J Lenz.

Statesmen, fraternal leaders, city, town and state executives and men from all walks of life were brought together at the bier of Mr Walker who was the only man to have attained the second highest place in the Supreme Council of Masonry in America and at the same time become grand master of the Grand Encampment of Knights Templar of the United States, the Philippines, Alaska, Mexico, Cuba and the Panama Canal, and who also had become a former mayor of Binghamton and lieutenant governor of the state of New York and at the time of his death was chairman of the Central New York Parks Commission.

The Knights Templar services were most impressive. Charles H Hadlock of Brooklyn, grand commander of the state of New York was assisted in the services by the following officers of the Grand Commandery: George F Argentsinger, deputy grand commander; Walter A DeLamater, grand generalissimo; Everett R Tomlinson, grand captain general; Chauncey C Thayer, grand senior warden; Chalmers Pancoast, grand Junior warden? Bentley S Powers, grand prelate; George O Linkletter, grand treasurer; John B Mullan, grand recorder; Jackson R. Shoemaker, grand standard bearer; W Ray Converse, grand sword bearer, and George Cook, Sr, grand warden.

The Rev Theodore J Dewees, rector of Christ church, where Mr Walker was a vestryman, officiated.

A double quartet composed of Job Leon Congdon, Charles H Speary, Floyd Lovejoy, Earl W Stone, tenors, and Frank J Phillips, Charles J VanValkenburgh, Norval S Douglass and Dr F Ellis Bond, basses, sang "The Christian's Good Night," "Come Unto Me" and "Nearer My God to Thee". J Emery Kelley was the accompanist. He also gave an organ recital from 2 until 2:30 oclock as the mourners were gathering for the funeral services.

Past Grand Commander Charles H Johnson of the Grand Lodge of the State of New York conducted the commandery funeral service in Spring Forest cemetery. Members of all Blue lodges of Masonry in the valley of Binghamton, also conducted services at the grave.

Honorary bearers were D. Walker Wear, commander-in-chief of Otseningo Bodies, Scottish Rite Masons: A. Ward Ford, Supreme Court Justice Leon C. Rhodes, Cortland A. Wilber of the State Income Tax Department, former law partner of Mr. Walker; Rollin W Meeker, past president of the Broome County Bar association: Dr Joseph F Roe, Fred B Nelson, Guy W Shoemaker, Gaylord M Leslie, Harold J Richardson, Charles H Johnson, Herbert O Karnes. Charles Smith. William H Hill, Edward D. Trump. Andrew D Agnew, Adrian Hamersly. Charles H. Hadlock._ John B. Mullan. James F. Evans, Fancher M Hopkins, Charles H Spilman, Channing H. Cox, Frederick B Stevens, John H Cowles, James H Mackin and Frederick J Meagher.

Active bearers were members of the Bureau of Fire. They were: Captains H Swartwood and J J Shine and Lieutenants C F Jones, G F Evans, E L Manger, C S Klee, E J Foley and L J Van Auken.

An escort of the Bureau of Police headed the funeral procession.

Ten men under the direction of Amos M Robinson and representing the American Legion remained on guard in the auditorium of the Masonic temple during the services.

Stage drapings for tho services were executed by Foster Disinger, Nathan Goodrich was in charge of all automobiles.

Mayor Miles M Smith and members of the City Council occupied seats in the reserved section. All baskets of flowers and floral pieces, numbering hundreds, were placed at the grave. All cut flowers were distributed by the Masonic bodies to hospitals in Binghamton, Johnson City and Endicott.

Relatives of Mr. Walker, who arrived Friday night to attend the funeral were Mrs Robert Walker and Mrs Charles Speier, both of Brooklyn. Masonic bodies of Elmira and Syracuse were represented by large delegations.

Others from a distance who attended the funeral were Sir Chalmers L Pancoast of New York, eminent grand Junior warden; Guy H Williams of Syracuse; Melvin M Johnson of Chicago, III.; A S Patterson, H J Kressling and Dietrich Lamode of Williamsport Pa; Governor Lou Emmerson of Illinois, a member of the Masonic Supreme Council; Justice Jerome L Cheney of Syracuse, also a member of the Supreme Council: John J Schuhman, Jr of M_____,NJ, vice president of the General Motors Finance Corporation, and Mrs Schuhman, and Past Grand Masters ...
