Funeral for Juanita Waggoner Maitland, 87, of Atoy was at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Wallace-Thompson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Freddy Mason and the Rev. George Brad Waggoner officiating. Burial was in the Atoy Cemetery.
Mrs. Maitland died Dec. 23, in East Texas Medical Center Jacksonville. She was born March 2, 1914, in Atoy. She graduated from Rusk High School and was a life long Atoy resident. She was an elder at the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Atoy. She retired from Rusk State Hospital in 1976 after 30 years of service in nursing. She was a trustee for the Atoy Cemetery Association.
She was preceded in death by her father, William Anderson Waggoner; her mother, Mary Alzena Waggoner; a sister, Winona Perry; and a brother, James Waggoner.
Survivors are a son and daughter-in-law, Weldon and Linda Maitland of Carthage; a daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Don Rankin of Mesquite; three granddaughters, Phyllis Riddle of Dallas, Tara Rankin of Rowlett and Jill Maitland of Carthage; one grandson, Craig Maithland of Longview; two great-grandchildren, Caitlin and Colton Garza of Rowlett; a brother and sister-in-law, John (Billy) and Evelyn Waggoner of Atoy; nieces, nephews and friends.
Pallbearers were Dennis Dotson, Larry Dosser, Mike Perry, Shae Perry and Ricky Waggoner. Honorary pallbearers were William Vaught and Harry Berryhill Jr.
