August Frederick Bremer was born January 9, 1856, in Sassenburg, Province Pommern, Germany. The youngest son of Frederick Bremer and his wife Louise nee Tesch. He was baptized on February 3, 1856. His father died when August was 8 years old. After he completed his schooling at his home school, he was confirmed on April 10, 1870 in his church at Rossow.

On April 21, 1881, at a church in Uchtenhagen, he and Pauline Lemke were united in marriage. They boarded the SS Herder in Hamburg, Germany on September 28, 1881 and set sail for America arriving on October 13th at Castle Garden in New York. From there they traveled to Sumner, Iowa, to his uncle's home where he and Pauline lived for the next 9 months. August and Pauline moved to Tripoli and lived in this vicinity for the following three years until moving to Frederika where he lived until his death. For 10 months he suffered from Baderow sickness. In addition, he was suddenly stricken with an intestinal infection. He died at age 48 years, 2 months and 21 days. Amid the prayers of his pastor and the assembled family he died peacefully on Saturday, April 9th at 1:00 p.m. He was buried on April 12, 1904 from the St. Paul's church, LeRoy Township, under church Administration by Rev. W C Neumeister.

August had 4 sons - Frank, Frederick Wilhelm Heinrich, Henry, and August F.; 2 daughters - Ida Wilma Bremer Segebarth, and Amelia Augusta Bremer Segebarth.
