Second Lieutenant, 430th Bomb Squadron, 9th Bomb Group, U.S. Army Air Forces, World War II.

Killed in service, co-piloting B-26B Marauder #41-18219, in a crash into a small island on Lake George, two miles west of Georgetown, Florida.
The aircrew were skimming low over the lake when the pilot made a banking left turn, but the wingtip dipped and struck the water, causing the twin-engine bomber to cartwheel into the island and crash. Four airmen were killed and three survived. One crewmember, the flight engineer, survived with only minor injuries when he was thrown from a break in the fuselage and landed 15 feet above ground in a tree. Two of the survivors attempted rescue efforts but four of the members could not be saved.
