VAN BUREN — Ellen Karen Ashcraft, 64, died at 6 a.m. Sunday, January 31, 2010 in her home with her husband and children by her side.

She was born Thursday, September 27, 1945 in Indianapolis, IN. She was raised in Petersburg, IN. and moved with Duaine to Van Buren in 1967. She was the daughter of the late George and Mildred (Carter) Hornbrook. She married her husband, Duaine Ashcraft, June 17, 1967 at the Main Street Presbyterian Church in Petersburg, IN.

She worked for Marion General Hospital for 16 years, retiring in 2001 to become a full time grandmother to 3 wonderful grandchildren.

During her life, Ellen involved herself in many organizations such as Job's Daughters, Psi Iota Psi, and Girl Scouts of America as a member and leader.


Ellen's enjoyments were traveling, being a wife to Duaine for 42 years and taking care of her children and grandchildren. She loved going on picnics, fishing, being outside and loved to entertain. Ellen was full of life, loved to care for others and always gave of herself. She will be so sadly missed.

Surviving are her husband, Duaine Ashcraft, Van Buren; son, Dr. Cregg (Dr.Carmen Erosa) Ashcraft, Columbus, Ohio; daughter, Christie (Robert) Livingston, Leo, Ind.; two grandsons, Cameron Livingston and Landen Livingston, Leo, Ind. and granddaughter, Ellie Livingston, Leo; two brothers, Michael (Karen) Fauber, Greentown, David (Georgia) Fauber, Amboy; sister, Pachia (Allen) Redington, Frankfort.

She was preceded in death by her mothers, Mildred Hornbrook and Mary Elizabeth Fauber and her father, George Hornbrook.

Private funeral services were held at Ferguson & Glancy Funeral Home, Wednesday, February 3, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Steve Colter officiating. Interment followed in the Van Buren Cemetery in Van Buren, Indiana.

Visitation was held from 6 pm to 8 pm Tuesday, February 2 in the Ferguson & Glancy Funeral Home in Van Buren.
