Edward D. "Ted" Harris, 87, long-time resident of Delta, died Wednesday, January 13, 2010 at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center in Provo, Utah of complications from an accidental gunshot wound.

Ted was born December 9, 1922 in Storrs, Utah to Edward Daniel and Cora Forster Harris.

He graduated from Delta High School, excelling in science and math. He taught himself about radios and cameras. While still in high school opened a photography business. Attended BYU before being drafted in the U.S. Navy, at beginning of World War II.

Excelled in radio-electronics. Later became instructor at the National Naval Academy in Washington, DC. Was recalled to active duty during the Korean conflict where once again was proud to serve his country. Later returned to the Pacific Area as electronics specialist, where he established military communications systems on various islands, including the Philippines.

Ted established several businesses in Delta: taxi service, radio repair shop, photo studio and a lab. Gifted in many ways and taught himself how to cook, paint, cut gem stones and make beautiful jewelry. Owned and operated "Rancher Café", a favorite gathering place for many residents. Ted was a loving son, brother, uncle who put others before himself. He was generous, kind and took care of his family, friends, even strangers. Provided work opportunities for many people.
