She was born August 3, 1914 in Elba, Idaho to Don J. Whitaker and Florence E. Ottley.
She married Asahel V. McBride (deceased) on February 20, 1934. Together they had two children, Vaughn McBride (deceased) and Carolee Baumgart.
Oleta was preceded in death by her loving husband, son, parents, her three brothers and two sisters, and is survived by her daughter, Carolee (Milton), her grandchildren, Jenna, Kelly (Lance), and Joel (Emilee), and eight great-grandchildren.
She was tireless in her service to her family, friends, and church. Her house was never without guests and friends and no one ever went away hungry.
She was a member of the Hillcrest camp of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers and loved her heritage. She served in Primary, Relief Society, and Sunday School presidencies and was a devoted visiting teacher for sixty-five years, forty-five of which she served with her dear friend, Cecil Smith, who turns 100 years old this month.
She enjoyed canning fruit from her trees, taking pictures of friends and family, and was known for her beautiful rose garden. She was an avid writer, keeping a daily journal, and sending letters and cards acknowledging birthdays, anniversaries, and special occasions up until her passing.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, January 21, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. in the Brickyard Ward Chapel, 1111 East Charlton (2818 South). The viewing will be held on Wednesday, January 20, 2010 at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 South Highland Drive (1495 East), from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the services on Thursday at the Church.
Interment: Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
