Mrs. Marjorie Johnson Ward, 82, passed away on February 6, 2010. She is preceded in death by her husband Reverend Dr. Edgar William Ward. Marjorie J. Ward was born to the late Reverand Julius P. Johnson and the late Marjorie Alverta Harris Johnson. Our Grandma Marj was so brave throughout her illness. She is one of the most vibrant, funny and loving human beings that ever lived. She was a lifelong Presbyterian, who was active, respected, well-known in the Presbyterian Church USA on both national and local levels. I cannot describe how much I love her! I am heartbroken, but hopeful to see her again one day.

The Celebration of Life for this remarkable human being was held on February 13, 2010 at Saint James Presbyterian Church in Greensboro, NC. Reverend Dr. Diane Givens Moffett was the officiant. Grandma Marj's Earthly remains were cremated. For my life, I can say that she influenced me tremendously. She was one who encouraged as well as loved me and so many others. Grandma Marj believed in me. I thanked her for being there for me while she was here, and I will praise God for allowing me to have her in my life until my Book of Life is complete. Sadly, we were not able to make the 6 hour drive to attend her services. The DOT never cleared I-85 in Georgia. We spent 10 hours waiting on the highway overnight, and the back roads were even more impassable, due to the ice storm. Fortunately, my nieces, nephews and other family made it through before the snow turned I-85 into a mess!

The last things I said to her will remain with me. Grandma Marj was in an assisted living home, and she was asking about my children. Thinking of others was her way. We talked about our lives and loves. She told me to not abandon my plans to attend law school, and remember to treat myself special. Along with the family here, she leaves her love with her daughter Lucia Ward-Alexander and son-in-law Melvin T. Alexander, II, of MD; sister, Luella Johnson Graves and brother-in-law, Robert Graves of Greensboro, NC; and a host of loving family members and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent in memory of Majorie Johnson Ward to Johnson C. Smith Theological Seminary, 700 Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive, S.W. Atlanta, Georgia 30314 or the Touching Lives Foundation, c.o St. James Presbyterian Church in Greensboro. Community Funeral Home.
