Henry Salisbury Twist is the middle of three sons born to Josiah Twist and Mary (Evans) Twist in 1880. Henry spent his childhood years in Laflin and Parsons, Luzerne County area of Pennsylvania. He took up working as a station agent in Laflin, Pa and later engaged working on the railroad in Long Island. His middle name, Salisbury was taken from his grandmother's birth name Elizabeth Salisbury Twist of Manchester, England. His five siblings include Elizabeth who died at 4 years of age, Daniel a coal proprietor from Sag Harbor, NY, Margaret Chase of Bear Township, Minnie Jordan of Wayne County, Pa, and Chester of Oneonta, NY. On or around 1912 along with brother Daniel, Henry moved to Hicksville, Long Island, New York with wife Sarah Kidd Twist. Sarah is the daughter of first generation Scottish coal miner and carpenter Robert Henderson Kidd of Ayr, Scotland, and to Anna Siley born to German immigrant John Siley-Saile of Horb, Germany. After moving to New York, Henry continued working on the Long Island Railroad in the switch room. He raised five children who are Myrtle Knill of New Jersey, Robert Kidd Twist from Hicksville, Marjorie Dunne-McKenna of San Francisco, Vera Thacker of Fresno, Califoria, and Henry Hank Twist of Hicksville, Long Island. He succumbed early in life to heart disease in 1938 and is buried in the Pinelawn Cemetery in Farmingdale.
