Gertrude was the third child and only daughter born to Walter and Adeline Cofer. When Gertrude was 3 years old the family moved from Redding, California to Klamath Falls, Oregon. Gertrude took part in many of her school activities. She was a graduate for the Class of 1924, from Klamath County High School. After graduation she was employed by the county assessor's office in Klamath Falls.

On November 3, 1929 she was married to Foster O. Bither, in a ceremony that took palce at the home of her parents. There were four children, a son and three daughters born to this couple.
Forest Cary 1931- 2005
Myrna Fostine 1933-
Janice Carol 1935 -
Dolores Ellen 1938 -

The oldest three children were born in Klamath Falls, then Foster's work as with Bonneville Power took the family to Washington, and Montana for a few years. Dolores the youngest daughter was born in Montana.

Upon returning to Oregon the family settled in a country home in Tualatin, Oregon. They raised chickens, and rabbits and some fruit trees. There are many fond memories, when Gertrude's brother, Lester and his family would visit on a Sunday afternoon. All of the cousins had a great time, playing and having fun, kids do.

Gertrude played the piano, at the Sunday services at the Methodist church in Tualatin.
