JESSE LONES
Copied From "Lones Is My Line"
Jesse Lones, first child of Jacob and Jane Hickey Lones, was born August 14, 1816. He was an ailing child and grew into manhood with "poor health". He was said to be the most gentle, generous and handsome of the Loneses. Of course, this description came from one who may have been prejudiced, his widow!
Jesse met Martha Ann "Patsy" Daniel at a corn shucking and quilting party. More about this meeting is recorded in the Life of "Patsy" Daniel which follows this account of Jesse and his wife.
Jesse and Patsy Lones were the parents of:
l. Barbara Ann Lones, b. 1-10-1840; d. 11-9-1893; m. 1-28-1858, George William Wells.
2. Elizabeth Jane Lones, b. 10-25-1842; d. 2-7-1901; m. 9-23-1857, Crawford Hulin.
3. Amanda Melissa Lones, b. 2-9-1844; d. 2-21-1844.
4. Henry Alexander Lones, b. 7-27-1849; m. Mary Louise Gaudin.
5. Martha Lones, b. 1-3-1848; d. 5-7-1865; m. 8-19-1864, Samuel Hawkins; Martha died in childbirth; her son, Lafayette Rogers Hawkins, died 5-24-1865.
6. Ellen Lones, b. 11-19-1851; d. 9-15-1906; m. 10-12-1871, Abram Maxey.
7. Eliza Lones, b. 7-19-1854; d. 1-16-1865.
Jesse Hickey Lones, a quiet and gentle soul, had been sickly all his life. He became "phthisicky," or consumptive, but continued to live an active life until he died of cholera at the age of thirty-eight, September 3, 1854. His death left Martha Ann Lones with minor children to rear in difficult times
