Frances Mildred Crawley Sinclair Mrs. Sinclair , a long time resident of Southminster Retirement Community, passed away peacefully on April 13, 2009 at the age of 85. Born in Roanoke, Alabama, she was the daughter of the late Randolph Lane Crawley , Sr and the late Frances Mildred McClendon Crawley . Mrs. Sinclair grew up mostly in Atlanta, Georgia where she graduated from the Atlanta Girls High School and comptometer school and within a couple years met the handsome sailor and love of her life, LT. KC Sinclair . They were married shortly before he left to go overseas during WWII. They moved to Charlotte in 1948 with their daughter so KC could teach high school. While raising a child and caring for her husband, she participated in Girl Scouts, in the League of Women Voters, as a Red Cross swimming instructor, and doing many crafts. She was a member of Providence United Methodist Church since 1956. Frances never tired of learning. Her 'empty nest' days gave her the opportunity to return to school, first at Central Piedmont and then to get her degree from UNCC, a Bachelor of Arts with major in Design. She was active in the Charlotte Art League and Guild of Charlotte Artists while having exhibits at UNCC, Queens, Wingate, WSOC, Springs Mills, banks, and many other locations. Mrs. Sinclair was preceded in death by her beloved husband, almost 20 years ago. She is survived by a daughter, Lynn and her husband, Richard Todd of Charlotte; two grandsons, CPO Michael Todd and wife Toni stationed in Sigonella, Sicily, and Raymond Todd and wife Erin of St. Petersburg, Florida; a sister, Lane Hartley of Greenville, North Carolina; and a brother, Ran Crawley , Jr. of Englewood, Florida. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 17, 2009 in the Chapel at Providence United Methodist Church, with the Reverend Dr. William Jeffries officiating. Interment at Sharon Memorial Park will be private. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Thursday evening at Harry & Bryant Company, 500 Providence Rd., Charlotte, North Carolina. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the Southminster Foundation or the KC Sinclair Scholarship at the Carolina Cooperative Credit Union, both in Charlotte. Harry & Bryant Company is serving the family.
