Joann Marie was born prematurely and lived only a couple of hours. Her birth was announced in the Roanoke Times and World News. My maternal grandmother, Leafye Ann (Yopp) Blankenship requested that the infant be interred next to her mother, Lucy Ann (Stewart) Yopp. She was buried to the right of her great grandmother. Grant Bryant Funeral Home, Elliston was placed in charge of burial arrangements. The grave is marked with an angel placed in front of a large field stone.
However, a review of her certificate of death indicates that she was buried June 26, 1954 in Evergreen Cemetery and that Lotz Funeral Home located on Church Ave. in downtown Roanoke, VA was in charge of arrangements. Neither Lotz nor Evergreen Burial Park in Roanoke, VA has a record that the interment was implemented in the specified setting noted on her death certificate.
May my baby sister find in God's embrace the Heavenly peace, love, and comfort that eluded you in your brief life span on Earth - paraphrased from the dedication page of My Sister's Grave by Robert Dugoni.
