MARY EVELYN MATTINGLY DAVIS, 98, died at 2:45 p.m. January 23, 2004, at St. Francis Nursing Center, Loretto. Born September 4, 1905, in Raywick, Davis worked as a postal clerk at Raywick and St. Francis Post Offices. She was preceded in death by: her husband, Joseph Aaron "Guinea" Mattingly; father, Joseph Bernard Cissell; mother, Mary Agnes Spalding Cissell; a sister, Catherine Schwarztraub; and three brothers, William, Gilbert & Spalding Cissell. Survivors include: three daughters, Helen Caldwell and Doris Mattingly, both of Lebanon, and Joan Ballard of Louisville; 11 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-granddaughters. A funeral Mass was held January 26 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Raywick, with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. James Graf officiated. Pallbearers were Terry, Rick, David & Mike Mattingly, Greg & Mark Caldwell and Brad Bickett. Mattingly Funeral Home, Loretto, was in charge of the arrangements.
