J. M. MATTINGLY, ST. FRANCIS, DIES
John Marion Mattingly, 60, of St. Francis, father of 14, died Friday morning, November 5 at St. Mary Immaculate Hospital, Lebanon, after being in ill health for about six years. A native of Marion County, he was the son of the late Thomas Owen and Mary Ida Cross Mattingly and had been employed in maintenance work at Seagram's Distillery, Athertonville. Surviving are his wife, the former Catherine Lucille Mattingly; five daughters, Mrs. Thomas M. (Nita) Clark, Holy Cross; Mrs. James A. (Mary Ann) Ashworth, Big Springs, Texas; Mrs. Leslie (Faye) Newton, New Hope; Frances Marie and Gloria Jean, at home; nine sons, John Robert Mattingly, Big Springs, Texas; Thomas Edward, Lebanon; James Francis, Brooks, Ky.; Paul Steven, New Haven; John Marion Jr., Gravel Switch; Gerald Gerard, Killeen, Texas; William Owen, Michael Perry and Joseph Fabian Mattingly, all at home; a sister, Mrs. Clifton Helm, Lebanon; three brothers, James Eugene Mattingly and Viella Mattingly, Loretto, and Chester Mattingly, of St. Francis; and 22 grandchildren. Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Monday, November 8, at St. Francis Xavier Church, Raywick, with the Rev. Thomas Caldwell officiating. Burial was in St. Francis Cemetery. The nine sons were pallbearers. The body was at Mattingly Funeral Home, Loretto, where a prayer service was held at 7 p.m. Sunday.
