Mrs. Martha Magdaline Hershberger, 84, widow of D.P. Hershberger, died Wednesday at the home of a son, E.D. Hershberger, of near Kalona IA. Mrs. Hershberger, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Christian Farmwald, was born June 10, 1847, near Millersburg, Holmes County OH. On March 4, 1866, she was married to D.P. Hershberger in Holmes Coounty OH and a few years later moved to Indiana and settled on a farm near what is now known as Scott IN. Later, Mr. and Mrs. Hershberger moved to Shipshewana where the former died in 1918. In 1925, she gave up housekeeping and divided her time between the previously mentioned son and a daughter, Mrs. Jacob Bell of Elkhart. Mrs. Hershberger, who was preceded in death by two children, is survived by the following children: E.D. and Chancy Hershberger of Kalona IA, Mrs. Jacob (Julia) Bell of Elkhart, Mrs. Amanda Deutsche of Los Angeles CA, Mrs. Fannie Stimes of Zion City IL, Uriah of Scott In, D.C. Hershberger of Chicago and L.D. Hershberger of Manawa WI. She is also survived by a sister, Mrs. Amanda Yoder of Orville OH, 30 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. The body will arrive in Elkhart Friday noon and will be removed to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Bell. The funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Prairie Street Mennonite Church, Elkhart, and at the Keightley Cemetery near Shipshewana where the casket will be opened at the grave for the benefit of friends from that community. The Rev. J.S. Hartzler of Elkhart will officiate.
