E. Shirley Lueth, 79, of Aurora, formerly of Grand Island, died, Monday, Feb. 8, 2010, at Hamilton Manor in Aurora.

Mrs. Lueth was born March 12, 1930, in Cobden, Ill., to M.B. and Wanda (Rendleman) Broadway.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leon T. Lueth.

Survivors of the immediate family include her children, Karen (Dave) Petersen of Lincoln, Susan Lueth of Aurora, John (Kris) Lueth of Sioux Falls, S.D, David (Beth) Lueth of Percival, Iowa, Mary Teachman and Matt Schneider of Lincoln, Amy (Patric) Brechbill of Stanton and Claudia Perez of Grand Island; 14 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Additional survivors include many nieces and nephews.

Shirley moved to Grand Island and was united in marriage to Leon T. Lueth, June 2, 1951, at the Presbyterian Manse in Grand Island.

The couple then moved to Aurora in 1970.

Shirley began her writing career at the Aurora News Register as a news reporter and writing a column called "Prayer and Peanut Butter". The column was picked up by the Grand Island Independent and was eventually syndicated in papers all over the country. She wrote articles that were published in the Nebraskaland Magazine, McCalls and the Ladies Home Journal. Writing was one of her loves and she published four books during her career. Avon Publishing published, "I Didn't Plan To Be a Witch" and "Bubble, Bubble, Toil and Trouble."

She and her husband Lee, started Lueth House Publishing and published "Prayer and Peanut Butter" and "Watch out I'm Peeking In Your Window." Along with writing, she traveled all over the United States giving humorist speeches, talking about raising children and lifting spirits whenever she spoke. She loved meeting people and traveling with Lee to new places.

She was an avid Husker fan and loved all sports.

She was a member of Gamma Delta Sorority at Southern Illinois University.

Shirley was a Girl Scout and Boy Scout leader.

She was a member of the Grand Island Tip Toppers Extension Club, and the Nebraska Writers Guild.

She loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Whenever the family got together there was fun, laughter and playing games.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, son-in-law, Greg Teachman.
