Obituary - The Perth Courier -
The sad word of the sudden death of Mrs. George Coutts of Rideau Ferry was received with deep sorrow and an extreme sense of loss by her many friends and relatives. Mrs. Coutts, the former Anna Margaret Moore, entered into eternal rest on Sunday morning. December 1st, 1968, at the GWM Hospital, Perth. She was born on March 12th, 1900 in North Elmsley, the youngest daughter of the late William H. Moore and his wife the late Jane Looby. Mr. and Mrs. Coutts were married on June 8th, 1921, and resided on the farm at Rideau Ferry until they built their new home nearby five years ago. The late Mrs. Coutts was of a kind and cheerful disposition and was deeply devoted to her home and family. It was perhaps in the role of grandmother that she radiated her love and joy most effectively. Mrs. Coutts was a devote member of Bethel United Church, Rideau Ferry, and gave much of her time to the Christian endeavor in her community. She was a valued member of the United Church Women, of which she was President for many years, and at the time of her death. She was highly respected for her qualities of integrity and leadership. The funeral service was held on Wednesday afternoon, Dec. 4, from the Blair and Son Funeral Home, Perth, and was conducted by the Rev. Arthur Bacon, Rideau Ferry, assisted by Mr. W. J. Graham of Bath, Ont. Hymns sung had been favorites of Mrs. Coutts, "What A Friend We Have In Jesus" and "Breathe On Me, Breath Of God". Interment was in the family plot at the Rideau Ferry Cemetery. Pallbearers were Ross Miller, Robert Joynt, Albert Wills, Lambert Kehoe, William McLean and Murray Coutts. The many floral tributes and contributions to the Heart Foundation and the Bible Society were a testimony to the esteem in which she was held, as were the many friends who called to pay their respects and attended the funeral. Left to mourn the loss of a dear wife, mother and grandmother are her husband, two daughters, Mrs. Norman (Gladys) Barber of Edmonton, Alberta; Mrs. George (Helen) Cartwright of Montreal, P.Q; three sons, Gordon of Perth, William of Balderson, and Kenneth of Rideau Ferry, and eighteen grandchildren. Also surviving are one brother, William E. Moore and one sister Mrs. Wilbert (Ethel) Polk, both of Port Elmsley. A younger brother, Edwin A., predeceased her in 1967. Mrs. Coutts was one who lived to the full for the good of others and the Rideau Ferry area will long continue a better community because of her life and influence.
