Funeral services for Ruth L. Horn age 91, of Tilden, will be held Monday, January 11, 2010 at 2:00 P.M. at Faith United Methodist Church in Tilden. Pastor Michael Davis will officiate with burial in the Tilden City Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Sunday, January 10, 2010 from 2 to 6 P.M. at Brockhaus-Harlan Funeral Home in Tilden.
Ruth Horn was born on December 25, 1918, daughter of Albert and Tillie (Kinkle) Horn, on a family farm seven miles south of Tilden. She attended schools at Pleasant Valley District #114, Morning Star District #31 and graduated from Tilden High School in 1937. She began teaching Sunday school and was Superintendent. She belonged to 4-H and Girls Scouts and sang in the choir. In August of 1942, she began to play for church regularly. She joined United Brethern Church in October 1933. She stayed on the farm with her father and brother, LeRoy and helped keep house for them. After her father died in 1948, she and her brother stayed on the farm until they sold it in 1970, when LeRoy retired and moved into Tilden. She was president of Ladies Aid and Missionary Society of the E.U.B. Church. She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge for 40 years and secretary 25 years and past Noble Grand. She had been a member of the Tri & Do Extension Club, the United Methodist Women and Tilden Senior Citizens. Ruth helped deliver meals on wheels and was a past member of the Ladies Encouragement Auxiliary of Norfolk. She joined the United Methodist Church in 1968. Ruth enjoyed working in the garden and growing roses and African violets.
Ruth died on January 5, 2010, at the age of 91, at her home in Tilden.
Survivors include a niece, Arlyce (Horn) Boldt and husband LaVaughn, of Norfolk and their children, Sherry Ehle of Washougal, WA, Kevin Boldt of West Palm Beach FL, and Brian Boldt of Concord, CA.
She is preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and a sister. (Added by Vicki Johnson)
