A spot check (ca. every 5 years) of the St. Louis City Directories confirmed that Mr. Weber ran an establishment at that address (southeast corner of Park and Compton) from ca. 1936-1967/68. He and his wife Minnie lived in the upstairs apartment. In earlier years it is listed as "John B. Weber, liquors". In later years, "John B. Weber, tavern". Unfortunately, there is no other information given about the place. My guess is that it was a neighborhood tavern. There was another tavern across the street, a drugstore on the third corner and a grocer on the fourth. The building is no longer there.

I hope this is of some help. Best of luck with your research.
Please let me know if I may be of further assistance.

Jan 6 1968 John B Weber was in a shootout with a would be robber in his tavern and was hit three times. He finally succumbed to his wounds after 10 days.

Thank you to Genealogy researcher Dan Fitzgerald of Brentwood Missouri who found newspaper articles for me.
