On the morning of August 15, 1939, our hearts were saddened when we found our mother, Mrs. Mary Jane Cook dead. Although her readiness for God's call was evidence by her every act & deed to the end, therefore we should not mourn for the loss of one so dear.

She bore her affliction cheerfully & the end came quietly & peacefully. She was a member of the Methodist Church at Chapel Hill where she was laid to rest in the presence of a host of relatives and friends, the funeral being conducted by a Primitive Baptist cousin, Rev. Jim Palmertree of Kilmichael and assisted by her pastor, Rev. T. W. Smallwood.

She leaves 9 children besides a number of friends & relatives to mourn her going away.

It is hard indeed to give up our loved ones, but when we think of the promise of the Great Physician, we know that mother is safe in His arms.

The family chain is broken & a place is vacant which never can be filled. Let us trust in the Lord. Death comes to all. As we live so shall we die.

We are thankful to those who expressed their sympathy during our bereavement & to the faithful physicians who
did all they could for her.

Again we pray that God may guide us through this world of sorrow & temptation & finally bless us with the eternal
presence of our dear mother in heaven.

Her son, Erskine
