Written by Phillip Barth in 1962.
I was born in 1897 in Odessa, Russia, the son of Mike Barth. I came with my parents and grandparents to the U. S. in 1899. My wife, the former Katherine Leingang, was born in St. Anthony in 1900, the daughter of Frank and Elizabeth Thomas Leingang. We were married in 1919 and lived on the ANton Doll homestead until 1926 when my parents moved to Solen and we moved on their place. I took over where my father left off.

We raised our family in the rural area. Most of the children had to be satisfied with an eighth grade education. Three daughters had the opportunity to go to high school.

In 195 we moved to Mandan. I turned the farms over to our sons, Francis and Benno; 1200 acres of land and 140 purebred Hereford cows.

We have nine children. I am still active in my work as an insurance underwriter. The children are; Elizabeth, Mrs. Nickolas Steckler, Tacoma, Wash.; Caroline, Mrs. William Schaff, Flasher; Anton, New Rockford; Margaret, Mrs. Leo Schmidt; Christine, Mrs. Jack Koch; Irene, Mrs. Roy Ferderer; and Esther, Mrs. Richard Hilfer, all of Mandan; and Francis and Benno of Solen.
