Mr. Ahalt was the son of the late Col. Henry C. Ahalt, Sr. and Nellie M. Kabrich Ahalt. He came to Manassas in 1969 where he worked in the Prince William County School System as a teacher and administrator. He was a member of Bethel Evangelical Lutheran Church, Manassas and a U.S. Army First Lt. Company Commander. He graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech) in 1953 and went on to receive a Masters from Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) in 1969. He also worked at Hercules Powder Company as a ballistics lab-Industrial Engineer. Mr. Ahalt was active in the Greater Manassas Chamber of Commerce serving as President from 1979-1980, worked with Parents without Partners and was on the Board of Directors from 1985-1992 and enjoyed amateur radio, flying radio controlled model airplanes, and later hiking National Parks across the USA and Canada.
He was also preceded in death by his first wife of 28 years (1952-1980), Janet V. Ahalt who died in 1980.
Survivors include his wife, Sondra L. Ahalt whom he married December 31, 1993 in Prince William County; four children, Stanley C. Ahalt and wife Patricia of Chapel Hill, NC, Patricia A. Shepard and husband Bruce of Manassas, VA, Andrew Ahalt of Manassas, VA and Charles W. Ahalt and wife Lynne of Warrenton, VA; two step children, Vickie Soyka and husband Brian of Ebensburg, PA and Philip Layton and wife Pam of Bristow, VA; one brother, William S. Ahalt of Catonsville, MD; nine grandchildren, Virginia and Travis Ahalt both of Chapel Hill, NC, Sarah Kneip and husband Daniel of Catonsville, MD, Katherine Smith and husband Clay of Lexington, VA, John, Robert, Marlow and Jack Soyka all of Ebensburg, PA and Cody Layton of Bristow, VA; sister and family of Janet V. Ahalt, Mariellyn Peake and husband Jack of Alexandria, VA; niece, Cindy Peake of Richmond, VA and mother-in-law, Evelyn Marlow of Oxon Hill, MD.
