Barbara Jean Gatton was born near Washington, Iowa April 14, 1935, the daughter of Fred and Leafa Lease Jarvis. She was a 1953 graduate of Washington High School. On July 3, 1953 she was united in marriage to Kenneth Gatton in Iowa City, Iowa. To this union, two sons were born, Steve and Michael. Over the years, she worked as a farm wife, mother, and a palliative caregiver for several of her close family members. Whether Barbara was tending to her garden or helping Kenneth haul grain in the fall, she always had her children at her side. As the matriarch of her family, family values meant the most to Barbara. She was always the first to truly welcome newcomers to her family. Barbara looked forward to the opportunity to spend time with her grandchildren. They always knew Grandma's cookie jar was full, and as adults, they were soon to realize that they could confide in her about anything. She believed if it is worth doing, it is worth doing well. Barbara will be remembered as an elegant, caring, and kind-hearted wife, mother, and grandmother.
She is survived by her devoted husband Kenneth; two sons: Mike (Cindy) Gatton and Steve (Renee) Gatton both of What Cheer; a sister Leila Lintz of Crawfordsville; six grandchildren: Joe(Stacy)Gatton, Avery (Bethany) Gatton, Ben (Jenni) Gatton, Sarah (Mike) Hughes, Courtney (Dana) Banks, Kendall (Lindsey) Gatton. Her life was also blessed with fifteen great grandchildren.
Barbara is preceded in death by her parents, two brothers Ivan and Norman Jarvis and a sister Betty Jarvis.
