After many months of patient suffering, Bert Prickett passed away at his home at Rushmore Mountain Sheep Ranch near Hermosa last Friday.
He had been in the Methodist Deaconess Hospital since last July, until two weeks ago, when he was removed to his home. Everything possible had been done to alleviate his suffering and affect a cure, but it was all in vain.
Funeral services were held at the Congressional church here Monday afternoon, in charge of Rev. D. W. Davis of Custer. Music was furnished by a male quintette consisting of Messrs. Hall, Waddington, Olson, Scott, and Hockridge, with Mr. Hawley at the piano. The pallbearers were Emil and Ed Miller, James Clinton, Harry Mills, T.M. Simpson, and Harry Belmont.
The esteem in which the deceased was held by his friends, was shown by the large attendance at the church, especially from his old home community—the Deerfield and Slate Creek neighborhoods attended in a body. Interment was made in the Hill City Cemetery.
Bert Prickett was born February 17, 1877, at Clarinda, Iowa, died January 24, 1930, at his home near Hermosa. He leaves to mourn his loss, his wife and son, Delbert, of Hermosa; two daughters, Mrs. Dolores Howey of Deerfield, SD, and Mrs. Daisy Howey of Newcastle, WY; also seven grandchildren.
He came to the Black Hills in 1900, living on a ranch near Castle Creek, until four years ago, when he moved to the ranch this side of Hermosa.
The relatives have the sincere sympathy of many friends in this section of the Hills in their bereavement.
