(1928 - 2010)

Ruth H. Handy, age 82, a longtime Two Rivers resident, currently residing in rural Denmark, died early on Monday morning, Feb. 8, 2010, at the home of her daughter.

Ruth was born in Two Rivers on Jan. 29, 1928, to the late William and Flora (Hindt) Kuether. She attended St. John's Grade School, and Washington High School, Two Rivers, graduating with the class of 1945. On June 21, 1947, she married Gerald C. "Jerry" Handy in Two Rivers. He preceded her in death on July 22, 1992. Together the couple owned and operated the Tannery Club in Two Rivers from 1971 to 1981. Ruth also worked as a clerk for Stangel's Super Valu, for 15 years.

She was a lifetime member of: St. John's Lutheran Church in Two Rivers; Two Rivers Senior Center; the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary and a lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary. She was also a member of several card clubs and enjoyed playing sheepshead; she was an avid bowler, dartball player, and enjoyed shooting pool. Ruth also spent many hours volunteering at the Washington House in Two Rivers.

She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law: Cory and Darwin Diehm, Sturgeon Bay; Debbie and James Peterson, rural Denmark; one son and daughter-in-law: Daniel R. and Shirley Handy, Jacksonville, Ark.; eight grandchildren: Tresa Gilbert and special friend, Mike Wendricks; Cheryl (Brian) England; Craig (Rhonda) Diehm; Michael (Julie) Thuss, Jr.; Daniel (Terri) Handy, Jr.; Shawn Handy; Nicole (Jared) Dequaine; Tina (Tom) Hoffman; and fourteen great-grandchildren. She is further survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Hazel (Norman) Schmidt, Manitowoc; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers and sisters-in-law: Earl (Rose) Kuether, and Chester (Joyce) Kuether.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 12, 2010, at St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church, Two Rivers. The Rev. David Arndt will officiate at the service, with burial to follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, Two Rivers.

Friends may call at the Deja & Martin Funeral Chapels, 1506 18th St., Two Rivers, from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday evening, and at the church on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Ruth's name may be made to the Two Rivers Senior Center or the Washington House.

Ruth's family extends a special thank you to both Amy Laluzerne and the staff of Unity Hospice for the excellent care and support extended to our family.
