Vincent F. Arszman (my Father) was the 9th child born to Joseph H. and Anna (Thiemann) Arszman. He was born at 1904 Galbraith Rd. in North College Hill. His Godparents were Fred and Emma Wissel (Anna's sister and brother-in-law).

He attended St. Margaret Mary and two years at North College Hill High School. While in grade school he learned how to play the trombone and became quite proficient . He loved the big bgand era music and often imitating Tommy Dorsey and Glenn Miller. He also played in the NCH high school band for his first two years. While he was in High School, WWII broke out so he enlisted, with his parents consent, at 17 years old in the United States Marine Corps He served in the South Pacific on Guadalcanal and Guam. He was wounded in action on Bougainville Island and received the Purple heart medal for his heroics in securing the area. He was one of 6 survivors of his outfit.

Upon return home, like most war veterans, he was like a fish out of water and took a while for him to re-adjust to civilian life. He was often found on the dance hall floor "cutting the rug" with the best of them. While music was his life, dancing was a close second. That is, of course, until women took over his interest. Like many other sentimental guys, he fell into the spell of Joyce McCartney Ritchie. They were married on November 22, 1947 at St. Margaret Mary Church, in North College Hill.

In no time at all, he had aquired a following of two sets of footprints following him around and adding some noise to their humble abode. As the family grew, they moved from Walnut Hills, to Norwood and then to 3591 Vine Street. The two children attended Annunciation Catholic school for a couple years. In the early 1960's they made their final move to North College Hill at 1925 Waltham Ave.

Vincent was employed as a truck driver for various truck lines through out his career. He was a member of the VFW and the American Legion. On March 26, 1993, Joyce died of cancer. A funeral mass was held at St. Margaret Mary and she was buired at gate of Heaven in Montgomery Ohio. Hodapp Funeral home handled the funeral arrangements.

After the death of Joyce, Vincent started seeing Ruth Lipinski, a long time friend of Vincent and Joyce. They dated for 10 and a half years. Although Ruth and Vincent NEVER MARRIED, their relationship was very close.
------
NOTE: Some sites are listing Ruth Lipinski as Vincent Arszman's second wife. THIS IS NOT TRUE. Vincent is my father. Ruth was a good friend of both Vincent and Joyce. When Joyce passed away, Ruth provided companionship for each other...they were NEVER married. If you see this, please DO NOT perpetuate this false statement by putting it in your tree.

This false fact has caused issues with both the Arszman family and the Lipinski family.
------
When Vincent was still able to drive, he would go see Ruth almost every night. When he could no longer drive, he moved to Mt. Healthy Christian Home and they would talk nightly on the telephone. She would come and visit him periodically. She provided him with the love and companionship he so need and desired. He had many good memories of their time together.

Ruth (nee Smith) Lipinski passed away Friday, October 19th, 2012. She was survived by her daughter Barbara Lukatz and her son Leonard Lipinski.

Vincent got to the point of needing constant care, so he moved to Fairfield Pavilion where he could get the care he needed, yet in an atmosphere of living in his own apartment. He had numerous "mini strokes" (TIA) and a couple major strokes. He died peacefully while living in his apartment at Fairfield Pavilion (1500 Dixie Highway, Fairfield, Ohio). He had Christian mass, celebrated by Fr. Jim Meade, at St. Margaret Mary church, North College Hill and was buried at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Montgomery, Ohio right next to his wife, Joyce. Hodapp Funeral home handled the funeral arrangements.

Vincent was honored with Full Military color guard, 21 gun salute and Taps. A powerful tribute to Vincent, and all men who fought in WWII to keep us free. Fortunately, through technology, we can keep his memory alive.

Vincent was a Corporal in US Marine Corps. He fought on Guam and Guadalcanal during WW II. He was the recipient of the PURPLE HEART.
