This affair came off at Alton on last Friday and Saturday, which resulted in the acquittal of John KEMP, charged with killing Embree LAND. There were considerable preliminary skirmishing among the counsel, and unusual talent and ability was shown on the part of the prosecution and defense.
During the progress of the trial, a difficulty arose outside the house between two men name PICKET and SPRINKLE. PICKET, as we are in formed, attempted to shoot SPRINKLE. But was arrested from his purpose by the bystanders. He (PICKET) was arraigned before Squire JENKIN upon a charge of assault and battery, with intent to kill. He was recognized in a bond of $200, to appear at the August term of the circuit court.
