Michael Kinney succeeded his Brother Thomas "Snake" Kinney as Missouri State Senator from 1912 until early 1969 becoming the longest serving in any legislative body. On June 3, 1924 Senator Kinney was waiting at the Missouri Pacific train station on Sappington Road when an assassination attempt took place. The Senator was hit 4 times, once in the jaw one in the chest and one in each arm. He survived and picked the picture of a escaped mental patient by the name of Hammie Shaine as the assailant.
